Huddersfield Deanery Project for Older People works to further the practical, social and spiritual well-being of older people of any or no religious background. Based in Bradley, they provide a general advice and information service and can link you to other organisations if they are not able to help you directly.
There is currently a large group of people who meet every week for a light lunch, Friday Friends, and this group also enjoys a monthly outing and three holidays a year. There is now also a Thursday club called Thursday Friends based in Brackenhall, which also provides a lunch and activities.
The Deanery Project run two Intergenerational groups, Bridge the Gap 1 and 2 (these are school based activity groups) and have gentle exercise, keep fit and craft classes. They also run their our own Community Gardening Scheme and Handyperson Service.
Their office and information cente is open Monday to Friday. Call in or phone for advice, information, or to talk over a problem in confidence with their professional staff. You can also become a volunteer in one of the activities - youŽll make new friends and learn new skills as well as helping your community.
There are currently a number of community venues used for the activities and the Deanery Project can sometimes provide help with transport.
